REFEREE CERTIFICATION INFORMATION
A USSF Grade 9 certification for those planning to Center games up to U14 Recreational including “small-sided” U10 and U11 Metro It is a good opportunity to pick up a little extra cash and to learn a bit more about the game. (8 hour clinic) $30 fee
Grade 8 referees for those who are planning to Center/AR Adult games, all Metro youth and Recreational levels. It may be the best summer job opportunity out there! (16 hour clinic) $35 fee
Referees are required to recertify annually. Every team is required to have a certified referee. Referee Clinics are typically held in August and February. For upcoming clinics contact NMSRA

For all games U12 and below, played on Rio Rancho fields, the pay for each game is:

Referee Responsibilities
- Prior to the start of the match:
- Be familiar with the NWRGSL modified rules that apply to the age of the teams involved in the match.
- Arrive on the field at least thirty (30) minutes prior to the scheduled start of the match to allow time for pre-game procedures.
- Inspect the physical condition of the field, including goals, to ensure player safety.
- Disqualify, by forfeit, any team delaying the start of the match by more than fifteen (15) minutes without sanction of the proper authority.
- Verify the identity of each player with his/her Player Pass Card.
- Inspect all players' equipment.
- Not allow any player who is not in possession of a current Pass Card, or who is not wearing shin guards, to participate in the match.
- During the match:
- Suspend or terminate the match due to inclement weather.
- Allow players to be substituted at the following times:
- Prior to a throw-in, in favor of the team requesting the substitution.
- Prior to a goal kick, by either team.
- After a goal, by either team.
- After an injury, by either team, when the referee stops play.
- At half time.
- Allow a cautioned player to be substituted for at the time of the caution.
- Issue cautions and send-offs to players in accordance with FIFA Laws of the Game.
- Issue cautions and send-offs to coaches for the following:
- Loud and/or boisterous sideline conduct by players, parents or coaches.
- Negative or profane remarks directed at any player or players.
- Direction from players, parents, or coaches to violate the Laws of the Game or act in a violent manner.
- Persistent criticism of the Referee or Assistant Referees.
- Possession of controlled substances (including alcohol) by players, parents, or coaches.
- Any conduct, deemed by the Referee, to create a negative atmosphere for youth soccer.
- After the match:
- Immediately report any send-offs or serious injuries to the appropriate authorities.
- File a game report for each match worked. A report shall also be filed if the match was a Forfeit (single or double).
