RRSC does not endorse the traditional definition of “competitive” soccer. That is, we do not embrace a short term focus of wins and losses that many parents (and coaches) seek.
We embrace a long term developmental approach and developmentally appropriate soccer for all players. We encourage parents and coaches who seek to play the Duke City Schedule to view it first and foremost as a more challenging level of play to further foment the children’s development and not merely as “competitive.” Moreover, we challenge our coaches’ to develop a philosophy and benchmarks for success that go beyond winning and losing. Please visit our coaching resources tab for more readings on this topic.
Our try-outs are intended to help players find teams and teammates that are commensurate with their interest level in soccer. We squarely frown on “player collecting” and try-outs before U10. U11/U12 are transitional years and the notion of “try-outs” can be a slippery slope. Consult with our Director of Coaching before proceeding. At U13+ “try-outs” make more sense.
