- www.socceramerica.com: The top Soccer magazine in the country. The website has great thought-provoking articles on youth soccer. Check out the “Youth Soccer Insider.” Many of the articles also appear on Writer/Author/Reporter Mike Woitella’s Blog at: http://www.youthsoccerfun.com/.
- www.nscaa.com: The National Coaches Association of America offers great courses and many resources are available on line.
- www.giveusbackourgame.co.uk: This is British site, but the problems manifest itself in the States, too. The intro paragraph on the site reads: “We are concerned that the beautiful game is in decline. Football for children is now very different from earlier generations when the only adult involvement was a call from your mum that your tea was ready. Football is no longer beautiful for our kids anymore: it's ugly.”
Positive Parenting, Appropriate Sideline Behavior and so much more
Research and practical experience has proven that a “positive approach” to coaching and supporting kids in youth sport leads to increased participation, retention, development and enjoyment.
Thought from Claudio Reyna, 2002 and 2006 US World Cup Captain: "For some reason, adults - some who can't even kick a ball - think it's perfectly okay to scream at children while they're playing soccer. How normal would it seem if a mother gave a six-year-old some crayons and a coloring book and started screaming? "Use the red crayon! Stay in the lines! Don't use yellow!" You think that child would develop a passion for drawing? Most important, parents must realize that playing sports is a way for children to express themselves."
