About Rio Rancho Soccer Club
RRSC Vision and Philosophy
Rio Rancho Soccer Club is dedicated to developmental soccer, employing the best practices and guidelines of both US Soccer and US Youth Soccer. We offer a place to play for all kids from ages 4 and up and our overarching goal is to create lifelong active youth through the beautiful game of soccer.
We are building RRSC based on the model of "Developmental Soccer" with the goal of creating life-long active youth through the game of soccer. Our professional staff coaches offer Age Consolidated Group Training Sessions to support our valuable volunteer team coaches to deliver a high quality soccer product and experience. We offer more than the typical "rec" club, but are not as pricey as traditional "competitive" club.
By Developmental Soccer, we seek to avoid the traditional definitions of "rec" and "competitive" soccer. Why? “Rec” soccer is demeaning and undermines skills acquisition and development (which are critical for long term success and player participation). The word “competitive” tends to place the wrong emphasis too early in a young player’s life by adding pressure. It suffocates the “fun” side of soccer. It, too, can inhibit the skill acquisition and development as coaches and parent judge success on short term wins and losses and players find themselves pigeon-holed in positions at very early ages. It has proven to lead to early burn-out and attrition.
By focusing on the "developmental side" of soccer, we know that we can keep more kids in the game for a longer time; again, our goal of creating lifelong active youth through soccer. And with more kids in soccer and a larger player pool, things like competitive showcase teams (at the older ages) will fall into place naturally.
